Detecting Leaks

Natural gas itself is odorless, colorless and non-toxic. While this makes it a safe energy source, it can make it difficult to detect leaks. We add a harmless scent to give it a distinct smell that most people associate with sulfur or rotten eggs.

While leaks are extremely rare, you need to know what to do if they happen. If you smell this scent or hear hissing near your pipelines, leave the area and immediately call 911. Then, call our office directly so our trained professionals can correct the problem.

Call Before You Dig

A variety of utilities run in underground conduits near your home — electrical, internet, water and natural gas. The locations and depths of these lines vary, so it’s important to know where they are before digging near your home or business.

If you’re planning to dig, it’s required by Alabama law to call 811 or our office directly two days prior to digging of any depth. We’ll locate and mark the lines around your home, ensuring your safety and preventing damage.
